About me

Dorothy Place – Artist.

Dorothy Place

I am a self taught artist, and have been painting on and off all my life, it is only since I came to live in Spain with my husband Roy that I have been able to devote more time to art.

I like to paint with oils on canvas and enjoy the challenge of painting a commission which is created for a clients specific requirements, whether a flower picture to compliment a décor or a portrait of  their  favourite pet.

I  also I enjoy coming up with different ideas and have created a series of surreal paintings to reflect the eclectic style of a Zagat rated restaurant in London’s West End which reflected the owners individual tastes and personality, whilst complimenting the décors colour scheme.

Nude figures are of special interest to me, I think the natural form of the human figure that is tastefully represented, to depict the beauty and lines of the naked body with a little artistic licence is both rewarding and challenging.

As a great deal of my time has been spent photographing wildlife in various parts of the world I paint animals and particularly birds with their wings open about to take flight as they represent such natural beauty.

Flowers are also an extremely important part of my portfolio, I paint close-ups of the flowers which gives a very modern take on a very traditional subject whilst still reflecting their beauty.

Another side of my personality shines through when I paint skylines of New York, I love the buzz of London and New York and creating that sophistication and excitement that comes from the vibrant colours of the sun going down in the early evening on the glass and steel of magnificent buildings is an exciting challenge to create an image on canvas.
